We were pleased to receive an update from an advisor of a former Defining the Future grant recipient!

Dr. Stephen R. Saklad, PharmD, BCPP, Director of the Psychiatric Pharmacy Program and Clinical Professor at The University of Texas at Austin, reported that beginning Fall 2020, all first year pharmacy students will be trained in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) as a required component of the PharmD curriculum. This is the result of Dr. Saklad’s work with the UT pharmacy students over the past 18 months, part of which was helped by receiving the CPNP Foundation Defining the Future grant for work focused on pharmacist-screening for depression. In addition to the fall MHFA training sessions, the depression screening goes live in January for all people that walk into the on-campus Forth Acres Pharmacy.

It is wonderful to see these positive outcomes that resulted from the Defining the Future grant program!
