In 2011, a group of pharmacists from the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) supported the launch of the CPNP Foundation. Known as the Founding Circle, this group paved the way for numerous grants, research activities, and support provided by the Foundation. This year in 2021, we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the CPNP Foundation! The Foundation Board of Directors is so appreciative of our donors’ support for the past 10 years, and we are excited to expand our reach and efforts over the next decade. Please support the CPNP Foundation through a monetary gift so we can continue our support of psychiatric pharmacy.

The CPNP Foundation is:

  1. Increasing Awareness of Psychiatric Pharmacy: The COVID-19 pandemic has upended our world and psychiatric pharmacists are needed more than ever. Through the support of research, education, and information, the CPNP Foundation works to showcase how psychiatric pharmacy can be part of the solution to the mental health, substance use, and suicide crisis in our country today.
  2. Impacting Local Communities: Making a local impact is critical to demonstrating the value of psychiatric pharmacists. With 56 CPNP student chapters in our arsenal, the Student Chapter Impact Grants support projects making a difference at the local level.
  3. Growing the Profession of Psychiatric Pharmacy: Seeing is believing. With the support of student and resident grants to the CPNP Annual Meeting, the CPNP Foundation provides critical support to pharmacy students allowing them to experience, learn about, and connect within the psychiatric pharmacy profession.
  4. Engaging Students in Psychiatric Pharmacy: With increasing specialization in pharmacy, the CPNP Foundation works to showcase the rewards of a career in psychiatric pharmacy. Funding of research and event registrations give pharmacy students a taste of the impact they can make as psychiatric pharmacists in caring for the most vulnerable in our world today.
  5. Combatting Stigma: Person by person, CPNP Foundation works to break down barriers to accessible and effective mental health treatment. Through the offering of Mental Health First Aid and the funding of research, CPNP Foundation seeks to spread the message that mental health equals whole health.
  6. Supporting Patients: Confusion, fear, and helplessness are some of the many challenges accompanying a diagnoses of mental illness and/or substance use disorder. Through a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, CPNP and CPNP Foundation provide over 40 medication fact sheets, providing information and reassurance to over 2 million patients and caregivers who rely on psychiatric pharmacists for factual information on medications used to treat their illness and aid them in their road to recovery.
  7. Cultivating Leaders: In a world of uncertainty and rapid change, growing psychiatric pharmacy leaders is more important than ever. That’s why CPNP Foundation is increasingly supporting training directed toward building future leaders who grow to positions of influence and impact patient care, increase accessibility and quality of mental health care in their health care system, and bring change to their communities.
  8. Promoting Networking and Collaboration: Combining voices to make change a reality, CPNP Foundation engages annually with partners such as CPNP and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to develop and distribute messaging focused on stigma reduction. Whether we are “Shining Light on Mental Illness” or coordinating the compilation of toiletry kits for the homeless, CPNP Foundation brings psychiatric pharmacists together to network, collaborate, and make a difference.
  9. Advancing Practitioner Development: A new world requires new tools. Aligned with that philosophy, CPNP Foundation supports innovative training solutions to help practitioners adapt and prepare for an increasingly virtual and changing world as psychiatric pharmacists.
  10. Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): DEI is more than a buzzword to CPNP Foundation. Along with our parent organization, CPNP, we are engaging in dialogue and learning in order to support future DEI initiatives and address social determinants of health impacting outcomes for the patients we treat and care for.
